Background
The Contextual Database (CDB) of the GGP offers open access to comparable, aggregated contextual data, which may be linked to the individual level data of national Generations & Gender Surveys. The CDB contains demographic, economic, and policy indicators for around 60 countries. Both GGP countries as well as other countries are included in the CDB.
The database consists of a set of “core” indicators which are regularly updated. The data is compiled exclusively from international databases and is restricted to country level.
In compiling the list of core indicators, the following criteria were used:
- indicators should help explain or understand demographic trends in developed countries in a global perspective;
- indicators should be widely available and therefore be easily updated (ideally annually);
- indicators should be available for a large number of countries as opposed to only European Union member states or only OECD countries.
Earlier version (pre-2018)
The previous version of CBD included national and regional-level time series, as well as descriptions of national-level policies. These data collections were complemented with different sources, including international databases of supranational organizations or research consortiums, and made available in an online platform.
The indicators from the pre-2018 platform not included in the new core list may still be found in “The Generations & Gender Contextual Database Archive”. This group of indicators is no longer updated.
The former Contextual Database and Contextual Data Collection of the GGP are still available here.
